We come to our last Sunday of the Advent season this week, celebrating the fulfillment of the promised Messiah – Jesus the Christ. However, as we celebrate the birth of Jesus in the coming weeks, we cannot ignore that He came for a much greater purpose than a fascinating birth story – to be perfectly obedient to God the Father to the point of death on a cross.
As you may remember, the term “advent” carries meaning of “anticipating the arrival” of something promised. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, this week we will also look forward to his second coming in Luke 21. As he came once as the humble baby born in a stable, He will come again as a conquering King. To this end we pray and anxiously await.
Here are some of the songs we will sing together this Sunday as well. I encourage you to listen to them over the next few days to prepare your heart and mind for worship as we gather with God’s people.
